Sacramental Preparation
Baptism
If you are expecting a child or wish to have a child baptized, we invite you to start preparation now. All parents who are expecting and those who have children already are invited to come. Child care will be provided in the Faith Formation Center.
Baptism preparation at the Church of the Holy Redeemer involves the following:
- Be a registered member of the parish
- Set up an interview with one of the priests
- Register for the baptism session
- Go over the packet of materials that are sent. This packet includes the following:
- letter to the parents
- questions for discussion
- policy statement with guidelines
- ritual outline
- packet on forty necessary assets for family life
- conversation packet for couples/single parents
- home activity (four concentric circle exercise)
If at all possible, please register at least two weeks prior to the baptism prep session so you can get the materials in a timely manner. We offer the preparation session every other month, at 7:30pm in the Faith Formation office area. If you have had a preparation session for a previous baptism within a period of three years, you do not need to attend the session itself, but you must arrange for an interview with one of the priests.
Because this is such an important sacrament and foundational to all the others, the baptism team takes this time with you seriously. We provide a forum for your questions or concerns, as well as some excellent take home materials. May God bless your time of waiting for that precious bundle of joy!
First Reconciliation/First Communion/Confirmation
Our Faith Formation process covers the preparation of the parish's youth for these sacraments. Please contact the Faith Formation Office for more information.
Marriage
As we celebrate the marriages of our parishioners, the policies of the New Ulm diocese are to be followed. We ask that either the bride or groom be a registered and practicing member of the parish. No date can be confirmed for the wedding until the couple has met with a priest. A six-month preparation period and attendance at a one-day marriage preparation session are required.
Anointing of the Sick
Anointing masses are offered in both the Spring and Fall. In addition, we encourage people to call the Parish Center to notify us of parishioners who are hospitalized or who will be undergoing surgery so that this sacrament may be administered.
Holy Orders
Parents, God has a plan for your child's life. Talk with your child about what that plan might be. Point out the gifts and abilities you see in your child, and discuss how he/she might use them to serve God. For information on entering the priesthood, please refer to the New Ulm Diocese MIB website.
